Why the Energy Challenges?

Reduce CO2 emissions

Saving energy reduces CO2 emissions. Because to generate energy, you consume fuels that emit CO2. And too much CO2 causes climate change, which, among other things, warms the earth.

Energy bill down

For the past few months, we were short of energy. As a result, energy prices have gone up a lot. That’s too bad! Will you lend a hand to your school? By paying attention to our energy consumption together, together we will get our energy bills down and have more money left over for fun activities like an outing or the musical!

What will you be doing during the Energy Challenges?

Over the next few weeks, your class will explore the topics of sustainability and energy. What is sustainability? What is energy? What about energy consumption at your school? You’re going to find out in the coming weeks.

As a true energy expert, you will then work in teams to investigate how your school could save energy. What savings ideas can your team explore? What would be a fun way to tell the rest of the school about your savings idea? Using our star poster, you will campaign at school to show everyone that your team has the best idea.

Of course, we will conclude the project with a smashing finale!

What is on the star poster?

The star poster features 9 stars. To determine a star, you must complete an assignment. Make sure you and your Energy Challenges team get all the stars.

Identity

Identity is that which makes something or someone unique or distinctive. This may involve a person’s personal identity. Then you describe characteristics of a person such as name and age, as well as character traits. In this case, it’s about your team’s identity.

You will work on the identity of your team:

  • Come up with a team name
  • Create a team logo
  • Make an introductory video of your team

Raging Reporter

Several times during the Energy Challenges, a Raging Reporter from Energy Challenges will visit. The Raging Reporter helps you discover how energy use is regulated at your school. The Raging Reporter will also guide you and your team in your quest for energy-saving measures and action plans.

You can always turn to the Raging Reporter. Do you have questions or just want to show what you made for the project? The Raging Reporter is wildly curious and happy to help.
